Abstract

The critical theory of society, such as Max Horkheimer argued in 1937 in Traditional and Critical Theory, is based on two principles: the critical behavior and the orientation towards emancipation. According to Theodor W. Adorno –for instance in Theorie der Halbbildung and the essays collected in Erziehungzur Mündigkeit–, these principles provide the basic perspective of critical theory of education. This paper presents some thoughts based on researches recently carried out in Brazil and Germany.
