Abstract

The polemical essay “On Popular Music”, written by Theodor W. Adorno (with assistance of George Simpson) must be historically revisited in order to understand the standardization process of the popular music by the Tin Pan Alley editors and its popularization by the radio plugging. Empirical data archived by Columbia University and the Adorno?s book Current of Music were our research sources about “On Popular Music” historical aspects and the innovative method of the radio physiognomical description as a powerful medium of mass communication.
