Indicators and Education in Brazil: Evaluation as Technology
Keywords:
educational indicators, evaluation of the educational systems, technology, technological rationalityAbstract
Assessment in Brazil has been carried out to define a minimum quality for schools and is considered a necessary and natural tool. To appear to general public as endowed with an indisputable content. To discuss that belief we examine three assessments conducted periodically in Brazil: Prova Brasil, ENEM, and ENADE, seeking to show that: a) they must be understood as technology: a set of institutions, high-tech equipment, the educational law, administrative and technical staff, appropriate research tools, in order to apply scientific knowledge to promote adjustment of individuals and schools to the requirements of social system, b) the apparent independence of these indicators can be better understood if they are linked to technological rationality that leads to political decisions taken in a predominantly industrial society.Downloads
