Abstract

This article analyzes the specific contributions of Siegfried Kracauer and Herbert Marcuse to a critical theory of cultural industry. Although the theory of Adorno, usually better known, constitutes an essential reference to throughout the text, its aim is to explore the possibilities of updating the theory of cultural industry in other different configurations for analysis of currently dominant conditions. Finally, under the motto of “extended culture industry”, it makes a brief balance and formulates a programmatic proposal.
