Abstract

This paper addresses a question, that to some extent has been neglected by the official discourse of the cultural studies and the epistemology of art, the connections or disconnections between work of the Warburg Circle and the research on art and culture of the theorists around Horkheimer, Adorno and Benjamin. This paper analyzes the affinities and the differences between two epistemes: iconology, as a critical, multidisciplinary and historical oriented science, and Critical Theory, as historical-critical theory of cultural and social objectifications.
