Abstract

Newspapers and magazines as well as TV programs have been using People with Disabilities to elicit sympathy. From telethons to documentaries disability is rendered either as a fate worse than death or as an inspiring icon meant to inspire disabled and non disabled alike to rise beyond the strictures of their lives. This article explores the conundrum between inspirational narratives built around people with disabilities in the Media and the neoliberal narratives on personal responsibility.
