Abstract

The paper analyzes the historical genesis of modern antisemitism, focusing on its convergences and differences with its antecessor: religious-based anti-Judaism, as well as with one of the current phenomena with which it is usually related to – the exclusion of the Muslims. In order to analyze the construction of the image of “the Jew”, the text goes from Spanish late middle-ages to German 19 th Century, culminating in the masses chor-singing in contemporary football stadiums. Finally, the paper puts a special focus on the gender dimension of antisemitism, which is often left aside in the theoretical analysis.
